HISTORY OF THE NOVEMBER BIRTHSTONE
A very hard and durable gemstone and found in igneous rocks, most topaz today is mined in Brazil. Other sources include, India, Australia, Mexico, Russia, the US, and Germany. Pure topaz is colourless, but it can become tinted by impurities to be of any colour of the rainbow. Precious topaz ranges in colour from brownish orange to yellow. Its hardness and transparency results in it being widely used in jewellery as a cut gemstone. A topaz should be treated with greater care than other minerals.
